Soft Shell

More Yellowwood summertime magic. Following the shoreline I hear something scuffling in the woods. A soft shell turtle as big as a washtub way up the bank digging a hole for her eggs. Her strong back legs throw the dirt almost to the water's edge. The day is hot and bright and full of life. The fishing is slow at first, then bluegill save the day. Then little bass start smacking the muddler. There's a big bug hatching and they're on it. I see the bugs coming off the water but it's too dark for an identification. Whatever it is, I'll just enjoy the fact that the muddler seems to be a close enough imitation.

  1. Thanks for sharing, Jim. Haven't seen a turtle that size in quite awhile. In jest I say, do Bluegills like Streamers?
